DEYRULZAFARAN MONASTERY · CORPORATE IDENTITY
Centuries of faith, given a form.
Nestled in the heart of Mardin, Deyrulzafaran stands as a timeless symbol of faith, a place where spiritual, religious, social and cultural histories converge. Founded in the 5th century and later known as Mor Hananyo, it served as the seat of the Syriac Orthodox Patriarchate for centuries, and it is still very much alive today. Designing a corporate identity for a monastery is not a branding exercise; it is a question of respect. We spent our time in the archives and on the site before we drew a single line, so that what emerged would come out of the place itself.
ONE MARK, TWO ALPHABETS
Written in Syriac. Read in Turkish.
The logo takes its inspiration directly from Syriac script: the distinctive left-leaning strokes and the fused letterforms that give the writing its rhythm. We reinterpreted those characteristics through the Latin alphabet: a mark that visually resembles Syriac, yet reads fluently in Turkish. Tradition and modern typography in the same signature, so the identity carries the monastery's heritage without turning it into decoration.
